Readability for Firefox

E-mail Print

readiconReadability is from the same guys who brought us Google Redisigned. This is particularly a good Firefox addon if you like reading websites without all the ads, menus, sidebars, and other crap. This is also a nice addition if you like printing out an article and reading it in another room, like in bed or on the toilet ... or in the bath.

Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts and Mouse Moves

thumb_firefox_iconOne of the things missing in IE is the sheer amount of available keyboard shortcut keys. While there are quite a few, they are fairly typical of most Windows shortcuts available in other Windows apps. If you're a keyboard shortcut nut like me you should enjoy this list.

If you're looking for a similar list for IE, you can find it here.

Limit History in Firefox

No one can accuse Firefox of being light on resources - and limiting your history can help.

Everytime your browser displays a page or image the history is stored for 90 days - that's the default. That's a huge amount of data for most users.

You can tune this down by going to Tools/Options/Privacy in Firefox and setting the number of days Firefox remembers browsing history.

Skip Screen: Pass Go and Collect

If you're into downloading massive amounts of files, you're probably collecting porn ... or software. In either case you're downloading zip and rar files from RapidShare, Mega Upload, or any other file hosting site. You've probably been caught in the endless loop of having to click through multiple screens to get to the final download. The SkipScreen add-on does it for you.

Google Redesigned

googleredisignedIf you use Gmail, Google Calendar, Reader, Voice, or any, all, or other Google apps and your a style, theme, or skinning whore like me you'll want to try out Google Redesigned. It re-styles the regular blue/white/minimal look we've all come to know and love from google.

In tandem with Integrated Gmail, that lets you merge all your Google apps it adds a really cool redesign of what was always function, but now looks cool.

Vacuum Places Improved

One of the coolest things about Firefox is the amount of add-ons, extensions, and plug-ins available. Unfortunately that also creates some performance issues. You can use a quick hack to speed things up.

If you're familiar with the old vacuum command to clean up the SQLite database you'll like the more efficient way. If you're not familiar it, haven't used it, or didn't know about it, don't worry.
